I love the idea of ‘van life’. There was a time I wanted to ditch everything, buy an RV, and take off. I still want to do that, but I still want a home base; somewhere to go after the Big Adventure. I know an RV is in my future. And if I had one, I would decorate it to look like part Indian truck, with brilliant colors and lights, and part artist workspace. At night, it would glow and provide a home base away from home, where I could lounge in my chair in front, looking at all of the stars God made.

This series of fantasy buildings, treehouses, RVs, and other cozy fictional places is something I am studying in sketch-paintings, soon-to-be fantasy paintings, and, in the future, some 3D-mixed compositions.

In this series, I create other worlds; especially places where a person can go to find rest, safety, family, love, and can decorate in his own personality. These dwellings, stationary or mobile, inspire thoughts of adventure, hope and that anything is possible. In every hideaway, there is a character. Can you tell one of my favorite things as a child was to read Richard Scarry books and try to find the worm who was wearing the one boot on the end of his little worm body? I naturally love investigation, treasure hunts, finding things that aren’t plain to the casual observer. Hopefully, these pieces will inspire as much fun and adventure as they are fun to make.

This series will be shown at the Yellow Springs Art Show in PA until May 11. After that, I will make it for sale, if it has not sold.

All pieces are unframed unless otherwise indicated. This piece was done on 9×12 acid-free soft white mixed media paper.
