Sarah Connor (Terminator 2: Judgment Day)

$350.00

Description

This original 10 x 7 piece is from a scene where Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) looks on at the Terminator (Arnold Schwartzenegger) playing with her son John, in Terminator 2.

The warmth of the setting sun in the Mexican desert on her face and shoulders, glinting in her brazing glasses was a powerful shot. I added into her hair, as I do in lots of paintings of hair, some secret stuff. In this case, I put the visual equation for nuclear fission: the reaction when a nuclear bomb is detonated. I thought it was interesting having the cold, factual science intertwined into the beauty of humanity. The piece is almost like a choice: right now, in real life, and in this art, both exist: humanity, and the potential for nuclear detonation. But one can stamp out the other in an instant. That equation can wipe everything out if realized. And mankind, if he so chooses, can agree not to use that equation. But he won’t.

In a later scene, as John (Edward Furlong) and the Terminator watch a few of the local kids fight amongst themselves with their play guns, John remarks: “We’re not gonna make it, are we? People, I mean.” The Terminator replies: “It’s in your nature to destroy yourselves.”

While Ezekiel 38 describes how nuclear war will be waged in the end times, this scene—this whole film franchise—is a powerful picture of our sin nature and its capacity to do the worst…or to make a better choice.
