Description
This lively little spot in rural Chester County is home to live music, a hip little bar and stellar restaurant, with the best crab cakes for many miles! Not surprising, as the owner/head chef has on his resume notable eateries in Hawaii, New Mexico, California and New York, including the Waldorf-Astoria.
The Four Dogs Tavern was a stable for the Marshalton Inn, which was founded as the ‘Marshalton Inn and Tavern’ in 1804. It sits on Strasburg Road/162, which used to be a main route for politicians, traders and others who needed to travel from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh. Its wide-plank floor and dark wood interior are still intact, but the building was rehabbed in 1978–after being a gift store with stalls–into the Four Dogs Tavern. It shares a menu and a parking lot with the Marshalton Inn and backs up to a centuries-old graveyard in the town of Marshallton.
This is the larger (14 x 18″ on canvas, in oil) version of the little painting: one of my favorite neighborhood places to go. One version is gone, this one is left!
