Description
It’s a crazy world we live in now. Like everything else on this glorious globe, we adapt…sometimes too well. What was unbelievable is now normal.
This piece—graphite on 9 x 12 acid free paper—shows the character’s preoccupation, or grasping desperately at what comforts her, while all hell is breaking loose. Even though she will be swallowed by the angry ocean, she continues reading whatever it is that is so interesting—or sedating.
This concept came from a dream I had about tidal waves coming onto a beach where I was. I have no idea what beach it was, but I was on a 20-foot sand ‘ridge’, watching all the people below. My heart caught in my throat as I watched the ocean swell to much higher than the wave in this image; about ten stories. There was nowhere to run. In the dream, which I’ve had a few times, the wave engulfs everything. Somehow, I’m ok, but it’s still terrifying.
So there’s the story behind that.
With our world’s recent events, the concept came to me with the woman.
All pieces are unframed unless otherwise noted.
